Serenity - calming blues

THE SERENITY Collection includes jewellery for everyday wear, but also pieces which would be perfect for a bride on her special day – offering “something blue”.

Here are some of my favourite blue gemstones, along with sapphire – which you will find in my Pearl and Birthstones Collection.

Tanzanite is an exclusive violet-blue gemstone found in only one location – at the foothill of Mount Kilimanjaro in Northern Tanzania. It was New York jewelers Tiffany & Co who named the newly discovered gemstone in 1968 and declared it to be “the most beautiful blue stone to be discovered in 2,000 years.” Unfortunately, the mines in Tanzania are rapidly running out of this precious stone making it increasingly valuable.Tanzanite is December’s birthstone alongside turquoise and blue topaz. Tanzanite is called a “stone of magic” that helps with spiritual awareness and psychic insight. It is believed to relieve stress and depression – and bring harmony.

A creative stone, Blue Chalcedony imparts mental flexibility and verbal dexterity. It stimulates the ability to learn new languages and improves memory. Gives feelings of light-heartedness and optimism. Enhances the immune system. Blue Chalcedony has an anti-inflammatory effect and lowers temperature and blood pressure. Heals the lungs and clears the respiratory system of the effects of smoking. Chalcedony brings the mind, body, emotions and spirit into harmony.

Iolite is September’s birthstone along with sapphire. The Vikings used iolite for navigation on cloudy days. Its pleochroism – the way it shows different colours when viewed in different directions – meant it acted as a polarizing filter, allowing seafarers to determine the position of the sun. Helps detoxifying and regenerate the liver.
